So, after almost two years, I just figured out that my now new-ish car has an HD radio, which means I can listen to the secondary, all-music channels from stations such as KCRW and K-EARTH. (You can also listen to them online, respectively, here and here.) Anyway...it's particularly enjoyable to hear K-EARTH's alternative oldies playlist because on their main channel they play the same songs to death. Overplay has, for me, ruined songs such as Smokey Robinbson's & the Miracles' "Ooh Baby Baby." But on their secondary channel you're more likely to hear deep catalog gems such as...

RIP, Eydie Gormé
A friend recently chided me for this blog turning into an obituary roll, but I couldn't let this passing pass. I've written about Eydie Gormé before (here and here), but I can't let her death (at the age of 84) go without notice. This album was part of my childhood soundtrack, the first boleros I heard, and they've stuck in my head ever since. This is my favorite song from the album, a classic written by Mexico's greatest popular songwriter, Agustín Lara.
